Pamela Abel-Smith was born in Winchester in 1936. She had a very happy childhood with two loving parents. In 1945 she moved to Epsom and attended The Greenacre School for Girls, in Banstead, where she remained for the rest of her schooling days. Pamela’s favourite subjects were maths, music, and sports. She was particularly fond of her music teacher, who guided her to achieving her teachers LRAM certificate.
Pamela started teaching in private and public schools, where she had some very happy times. She took up badminton and enjoyed it so much, that she soon played for the county team. One of her fondest memories was winning the Shropshire County singles and mixed doubles titles.
In 1960 Pamela taught at Winchester House School for boys, where she met her husband, Michael. The couple had two daughters, but Pamela continued teaching. She soon became Deputy Head of a large secondary modern school.
Illness caused her to retire in 1988. At that point her and her husband decided that Spain would be a better place to live and they moved there in 1988.
Pamela and Michael’s grandson, Eddy, was not keen on reading, so Pamela decided to write this book for him. He is now an avid reader!
